How to find events on SoFunNear: neighbourhood first, then the rest

What this site is for

SoFunNear lists real-world things to do in Hong Kong: school open days, hobby classes, mall programmes, concerts, exhibitions, and neighbourhood gatherings. Each event has an address and map coordinates. The homepage is a filter, not a magazine. If you need a long read, the guides section is that layer; the cards are for deciding whether to leave the house.

You can browse without an account. Creating an account is for saving bookmarks, submitting events, and managing listings you own. Suggesting an event (海報 or a URL) does not require an account.

Start with an area, even if you think you want “everything”

All Hong Kong is useful when you are researching a theme, such as every open day this month. It is a poor way to pick a Saturday. Choose Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, NT East, or NT West, then a neighbourhood if you already know it (Central and Western, Wan Chai, Yau Tsim Mong, Sha Tin, Sai Kung, Tuen Mun, and others). Near me uses your current location; allow it only when you mean “around this spot”, for example already in a mall.

Distance only appears when we have a location to measure from. If you skip Near me and skip an area, you are reading a city-wide stack that will look busy and still be the wrong side of the harbour.

Filters that change the list instead of decorating it

Category separates concerts from hobby classes from school events. Education level hides primary talks when you want K1. Time filters (happening now, upcoming, a date range) stop last week’s carnival sitting on top of next Saturday. Price and age are only as good as the organiser’s data — if a studio did not enter a fee, the card will not magically know it.

Search is for a school name, a mall, or a short keyword. It is not a substitute for the area chip. Searching “open day” without a region returns the whole season.

• Education level — nursery through post-secondary
• Date and “happening now” — this weekend versus someday
• Fee, age, souvenir — only when the organiser filled them in

Series are themed lists, not a second homepage

A series groups events that share a purpose: a season of school open days, a chain of studios, a festival. Opening a series and then picking a neighbourhood inside it is the fastest way to plan one theme. Rank Up (paid) pins an event in that series at the smallest area. Organic cards still appear; paid placement is labelled as Featured and is not an endorsement of the school or studio.

Some series have a map of every venue in the collection. Use it when you are committing a whole Saturday to one theme and want to see whether the dots cluster.

The event page is for logistics

Open the event for the schedule, fee, description, and buttons for Google Maps or Apple Maps. Street View is there so you can see the podium entrance before you drag a stroller into the wrong lift lobby. If the description was parsed from a poster, read it like a poster: confirm the registration link. Languages can be switched when the organiser provided a translation.

If something is wrong, use the report control on the page. If you represent the organiser and the page was submitted by someone else, request management from the event page rather than creating a duplicate.
